We recently visited the Aerial Paragliding School in Cashmere Washington. What we found was big sky country in  the Cascade foothills just outside of Leavenworth. The topography is quite friendly with rolling grass covered hills in all directions.Take a look at their 2200 acre paragliding ranch which is host to one the best places to learn the paragliding arts in the United States. The ranch has a wonderful rustic cabin which is used for overnight guests as a bunkhouse and a common area where the basics of flight are discussed.

Doug Stroop who is owner of the Aerial Paragliding school is committed to a hands on learning approach. Guests of his school usually spend around an hour talking about flying and after that your in a Ford F-350 getting shuttled the short 10 minute drive up to the learning hills. Now it's hands on time. You could literally go to his school and be flying within 2 hours of arrival. Now these are just the bunny hills where the basics are learned but they are perfect for the absolute beginner. If you are an experienced pilot there are even more options available. If conditions are right you can fly to nearby Leavenworth, Cashmere or even Wenatchee.

Once you are in the air and flying the guides have radio contact with you for instant feedback while you are flying. Usually that means a little flight coaching. Lift your arms a bit higher, turn to the left, looking good....You got it! Perfect...! You aim for a spot lower in the valley where the F-350 is waiting to shuttle you and your gear back up for another of your many practise flights.

Make sure to visit The Aerial Paragliding School website for more info and a must see gallery of images.
